My name is Shanna and I am the mother of three precious little boys who have seen their mother beat up by their father too many times. Three little boys, ages 9, 6, and 4 who have tried to protect their mother from their father. A father who has no remorse for his actions and still continues to be abusive even after the relationship has ended.

I have been a stay at home mom for the last 10 years and now being attacked through the legal system. My estranged husband has told lies to have me unlawfully arrested and children taken away. A mother that has never been in trouble, no prior records, who was trying to start her life over was detained for 8 days, transferred to 3 different jails, on a $200,000 bond, felony charge. A charge that should have been a civil matter and never warranted my arrest without being summoned to court first.

Now that I'm released I feel even more tortured than before because I have not seen nor heard from my kids in over a month and I know they miss their mommy and are wondering what happened to me.

I really need your help to not only raise money so I can fight this charge, get my children back, and get a divorce but to take a stand against abusive men. There are so many women right now that wish they can leave their abusers but are stricken with fear because of the consequences (I know this feeling too well). There are also many other women that have suffered fatal tragedies by the hands of their abusers leaving behind helpless children. I am tired of being silent and will not back down from this fight. Domestic Violence is a silent epidemic and its time to blow the top off. I believe that everything happens for a reason and that my testimony can inspire other women.

This is not just my story but so many other women story.

"Why doesn't she just leave?" What many people fail to realize is that Domestic Violence is so much more than just physical abuse. There's also emotional, financial, and sexual abuse. With studies proving that emotional abuse is far more psychologically harmful than physical abuse. We need the legal systems in ALL states to acknowledge ALL forms of abuse and not just the physical.
