I am reaching out to some of the people I have met throughout the many years I spent studying and traveling abroad. It took me a long time to decide to do it, because I have never liked to ask people for help. Today, I am doing it not because of me, but because my family needs all the extra support we can get.
Have you ever dreamed of meeting your significant other and falling in love just like a fairytale story? Well, my cousin Nora shared the same dream, but little did she know that her “Prince” she met was a criminal who looks for girls and makes them fall in love so he can incriminate them, turn them into the police and continue his life as a low-profile Drug Dealer. And I say low-profile since his mother has a key role in the judiciary system and is also a well-known supporter of the regime in Nicaragua and does not hesitate to use her influence to keep her son away from jail, even though there are multiple charges against him and a capture order that is kept in secret and the police never made any attempt to capture him. While his family is a highly reputable one, the son is a criminal that the whole Police department and Prosecutor’s office protect.
Our nightmare started almost 2 months ago and even though he was found in the room with cocaine he brought to my cousin’s room to incriminate her, he was let go in less than 1 day, while my cousin has been sent to jail, after a speed-up irregular and corrupted process. Nora was working at the time, and only my 90 year old grandmother was at home when the police arrived, and yet Nora is the one being prosecuted carrying with the responsibility for drug found in her absence, with a demonstrated criminal who has a capture order for drug dealing sitting next to it.
What he did not know, is that Nora has so many people who love her, who would fight for her regardless, we came together as a family, with our friends, extended relatives and acquaintances to find the evidence that proofed that he was the real criminal, and that Nora is the 3rd victim, the 3rd time the same story repeats. Nora's family sold her house and all her belongings to also cover some the inevitable briberies that people along the way have asked to keep her safe and treat her with respect, a common thing in countries like Nicaragua. Nonetheless, we have also found angels who have helped her without asking for anything in return.
I am asking for support, not only to help with the legal expenses involved in Nora’s case, and the high costs that we incur to keep her safe and to send her food and supplies each week but also to support her mom and dad, who are elderly and lost the help they received from a hard-working woman who always provided for them. Part of the money raised will be used so she can move with her family to a new country and have a fresh start.
This whole case has not been published yet since we found people with kind hearts in the judiciary system, people who still believe in justice and have not sold their souls to the corrupted system, and we will wait until she is released and leaves the country to make sure the whole country knows her story. A friend of ours, a journalist in New York is helping with that and as soon as she is save and we are sure she is far enough from any repercussions, I will pass the reportage to you so you help us spread it, as well.
