Campaign Story
JUSTICE FOR THE CASA MIRA - NAGA STRAY DOGS
January 22, 2023 ( Wednesday) – Casa Mira Subdivision ( Barangay Langtad) Naga City, Cebu Province
Several residents started to become concerned about sudden and unexplainable deaths of dogs who typically roam their subdivision area. The incident was posted by one of the subdivision residents who was beginning to be alarmed at the situation.
The social media posting started to get attention especially with animal welfare groups and concerned animal rescuers.
January 27, 2023 (Monday) – This time some of the victims were dogs of residents in the subdivision who innocently consumed some of the suspicious substances which were wrapped in regular food portions apparently used as a bait.
February 1, 2023 ( Wednesday) – Two Cebu based, SEC-registered animal welfare groups, namely Happy Tails Animal Welfare Organization, Inc. represented by its President and Co-Founder, Hazel S. Aguisanda, IRO Island Rescue Organization, represented by its President, Annalyn Aizpuru along with Furry Tails Haven Founder, Theresa Marie Vidal and Dr. Verna L. Agriam (DVM) Veterinarian3/Animal Welfare Officer from the Department of Agriculture went to Casa Mira South Subdivision in Naga to get additional information and assess the situation first hand.
The subdivision’s Facility Manager denied any knowledge of the massive poisoning. However, she did admit that approximately 40 dogs were found dead in the vicinity which compelled her to instruct the maintenance personnel to immediately bury the dead bodies. The burial sites are just in the surrounding areas usually next to where the body is found and if the area happens to be a vacant lot.
The animal welfare advocates were shocked to discover decomposing bodies of some of the dogs who died in the empty construction units. It looked like after ingesting the poison, they ran for “cover” in those empty construction shells.
But despite the obvious “death scenes” in the subdivision area… NO ONE IS TALKING!
The team would like to pursue justice for the innocent lives lost in this cruel incident. Therefore, the group has decided to engage the legal services of Atty. Ben Cabrido and associates. Not only are these lawyers excellent at what they do, they also have the compassion and genuine kindness towards animals.
As animal rescue organizations, we have very limited financial resources as we only rely on donations to sustain our shelters and rescued dogs and cats. Please help us raise funds to cover the legal and investigation costs; so the untimely and unfair deaths of these innocent and helpless animals will not be in vain.
