The Pharmaceutical Tragedy of Kenny Gray

My name is Jasmine Gray. I am the wife and advocate for Kenneth Gray. My husband has been wrongfully convicted of murder and is serving a 56 year sentence. Please help me correct this gross injustice that is the direct result of medical and mental health professionals who misdiagnosed and inadequately treated Kenny’s bipolar disorder. These actions exacerbated his mental illness and compelled him to commit the murder. After you read this campaign post I am confident you will feel the urge to help our case.

The Tragic Beginning

To begin, I must tell you Kenny’s murder conviction involves the shooting of his former wife. At the time, many who know Kenny believe that something happened to him mentally and or physically that resulted in the shooting. Unfortunately, no one could pinpoint why this happened. For the past fourteen years family, friends, lawyers, myself and others have searched for answers, because this was so out of character for Kenny. After an intense investigation, the answers have finally been found.

CAUSE AND EFFECT

We know the reason Kenny fatally shot his wife. It was due to (in legal terminology) being “Involuntary Intoxicated” while under the influence of the antidepressant Zoloft. A medication prescribed by his family doctor prior to that tragic day on September 25th 2005. This pernicious prescription was issued by Kenny’s family doctor, not a psychiatrist, after he had been misdiagnosed with “anxiety and depression.” Little did anyone know, at that time, Kenny actually suffered from bipolar disorder and PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder). By now, you may be asking: What does all of this have to do with a wrongful conviction? The short answer? “Everything!”

Newly discovered evidence

I. (B.A.M)- Bipolar Antidepressant Mania

In the last five years, facts have been discovered that significantly mitigate in favor of Kenny’s diminished capacity at the time of the shooting. Kenny’s situation is very unique because he has two biological factors that were working against him on the day of the incident. Kenny is diagnosed with bipolar disorder. It is well-known within the psychiatric community that giving a bipolar person an antidepressant alone without another mood stabilizing medication will cause them to be manic, hypomanic or have rapid-cycle symptoms. So, with Kenny’s mental-health situation it was like adding a flame to dynamite and “BAM!” It caused Kenny to basically go crazy. Obviously, he was completely unaware. Who would think that a doctor prescribed medication that was supposed to make you feel better, would do the exact opposite? (Also, it should be noted that “Involuntary Zoloft Intoxication” is a recognized disease defect or derangement within the DSM-IV).

II. Irrefutable Scientific Evidence

DNA Test Results

On June 13th 2019. Kenny took a DNA test. It turns out that there is a DNA test that can show a person's propensity to have adverse side-effects and violent outbursts while taking Zoloft. The DNA test determines a person’s genetic predisposition towards how he or she will metabolize specific medications. Basically, there are four types of metabolizers: Extensive; Intermediate; Poor; and Ultra Extensive. As we suspected, Kenny is an Intermediate Metabolizer of the antidepressant Zoloft. In the human body, normally, there are two lanes where the antidepressants are metabolized. Kenny is part of a small population of humans that only have one lane. So, he can’t metabolize Zoloft properly. This caused the medication to build-up in his system and that is known to cause adverse side-effects and violence. This is irrefutable scientific evidence. Either you have this gene or you don’t. This is the second biological factor that contributed to his erratic mental state prior to, during and following the shooting.

A call to action

This is not an isolated incident. Antidepressants are extremely dangerous! There are thousands of incidents of people becoming violent while on antidepressants. At the end of this campaign post, I will provide links to the save.com and also RxISK.com that provide hundreds of reported cases of violence stemming from the ingestion of these drugs.

We are confident that with your monetary donation, the truth in this case can be exposed and others can become aware of the dangers that doctor prescribed drugs can pose. We need your help. Having all of this newly discovered evidence and now knowing the real truth isn’t enough to vindicate Kenny and bring him home. We need lawyers and legal assistance. We need qualified experts such as psychologists, psychiatrists, and pharmacologist. All of which cost money. Perhaps you are an attorney or one of the above-mentioned experts and you want to volunteer some of your time. Being that our family has very limited resources, we are asking the public to help. Please find it in your heart to help us.

Conclusion

If you know Kenny the way I do, you would know what a wonderful man he is. This incident is so out of character for him. He had no criminal record prior to this incident and has been a model inmate. Kenny’s four children and his grandchildren finally need to know and understand that this was actually a pharmaceutical tragedy and not a premeditated deliberate act.

It is absolutely heartbreaking to watch him languish in prison and suffer physically, mentally, and spiritually due to the grossly negligent treatment Kenny receives from medical and mental health professionals. Compounding matters, mental health staff at the prison continue to encourage Kenny to take medications that his body can’t metabolize. Despite being clearly made aware of Kenny’s genetic predisposition as an intermediate metabolizer. Ultimately, the longer Kenny remains in prison the more his overall well-being will deteriorate.
