This campaign is for legal assistance for Michelle Morrison as she continues to fight the State of Georgia to secure her freedom of a life sentence given to her by the State of Georgia. Michelle Morrison was sentenced to a life sentence in April of 2009 by the State of Georgia after rejecting a 5 year plea bargain to proclaim her innocence during trial for an indictment of felony murder.
Michelle's proclamation of innocence occurred when she was called on her phone at her home and picked up her friend from the friend's hotel room and drove the friend and the friend's two acquaintances to collect what she believed was a typical debt; as her friend implied. The friend then asked Ms. Morrison could she use her phone, because her phone was not charged and set the chain of chain events in motion that would forever change Michelle's life. There was a homicide that occurred during an altercation unbeknownst to Ms Morrison.
During her trail; Michelle's testimony to the State of Georgia was rejected because she rejected a 5-year plea and the State of Georgia offered a plea bargain to the defendant who took part in the homicide and who continuously lied under oath and placed significant blame on Ms Morrison. Michelle's family and friends are still very distraught over what occurred and the mandatory sentencing of life the state of Georgia imposed on her; which is cruel and unjust.
One of the two main culprits is now free among society after serving his plea time. Michelle accepted full responsibility for her actions of driving the culprits to the resident, but remains adamant and steadfast of her innocence. Michelle by all measures of comprehension does not belong in prison for the rest of her life. Currently she has served almost 10 years and this legal campaign is being created to assist Ms. Morrison to obtain a post conviction legal team to correct.
this injustice of a sentencing and secure her freedom and allow her to return to family and friends and also help change the laws that wrongly sentence and convict so many of our citizens.
