Thank you for taking the time to help a young man get the help he needs to prove his innocence.
In December of 2020 my nephew Charles and his three friends were in a vehicle that was targeted with gun fire. When the bullets hit the car Charles and the two boys got out of the car on instinct to protect themselves from the obvious and imminent danger that they were facing head on. In the process the driver a young father was struck and died that night.
Since the event the boys including my nephew were booked and held until march on gun charges. They were released on bail and a month later re-booked on 2nd-degree murder charges. These charges can lead to 15-20 years in jail.
This is an outrage for our family, when the bullets of a unidentified man struck the vehicle and driver. The following days before Christmas those men robbed the victims house, stealing gifts for his child.
The police have not made any arrest on the actual murderer and burglar. Rather they are pinning the murder on the innocent boys all under 21 years of age during the shooting, regardless of the fact that they were inside of the vehicle when it was struck several times.
My nephew Charles, I always felt has a heart to big for his chest and to be suffering with the loss of his friends life, missing the holidays with family and being accused of a crime he did not commit, while being in the wrong place at the wrong time; is heartbreaking on many levels.
Speaking on behalf of my nephew Charles, he graduated high school two years prior to this incident, while spending his high school career as a very active sport oriented kid. He has since met the wrong crowd and was sold on the wrong dreams.
This mistake on his part is redeemable and at this point he can fully make the changes necessary to succeed at life by taking a road less traveled. But by throwing the book at him at this young age, we’re saying that redemption isn’t an option rather only punishment and if that punishment it to severe?
We are asking for a fair shot at proving his innocence and moving on from this unfortunate event with the tools to ensure this will not be a reoccurring event.
We are not able to do this without a great criminal defense lawyer, and the expense is too much for us to cover. With Covid and the loss of jobs in our immediate family not one of us has the finances to cover such an expanse and this is destroying us mentally. The fear of our innocent boy going away for a crime he did not commit is sickening.
We would like a chance at a fair trial and the ability to have a skilled defense lawyer fighting our case.
If you can find it in you to open your hearts; to assist us on having that fair trial please consider any donation no matter how small. The donation will help us to hire a credible lawyer, to have a fair shot on proving his innocence in court. To be given the same right everyone should have, the right to a fair trial. Your donation also has the extra benefit of warming us to the fact we’re not alone in the world, that there are good people in this world who are willing to open their hearts and minds to someone in need. It’s a positive feeling amongst the chaos.
Thank you for anything you can offer at this time. We appreciate you. Thank you for taking the time out of your day to think of how someone else is doing.
