The Future Leaders Incorporated (FLI) was established by a group of young men during their high school years in a boarding school, with the average founder’s age being 17. The rationale behind the group’s formation stemmed from the realisation that those who were to be our successors lacked some certainty and direction with regards to what they wanted their lives to be like. Also, they were not sensitized enough about where our country Ghana was heading and what impact they could make.

Thus, we decided to identify as an NGO (of young men and women) that sought to empower young people by aiding them unearth their potential by opening their eyes, minds and hearts. We seek to enlighten young Ghanaians about the various career paths that exist and empower them to make choices not solely based on societal stereotypes or expectations but, be driven by their passions. Also, we want to empower young Ghanaians to be instruments of change in Ghana now, in order to defeat the status quo of “grow up before you can impact”. We aim to do all this coupled with our mission to help in the effective realization of potential - which in our context is the power to do - to impact Ghana positively. With such rationale and motivation behind our existence, what sets us apart from other NGOs in the youth empowerment domain is the fact that we’re all self-driven young people trying to impact the lives of other young people who could be our younger siblings.

As part of our aim to realise our goals, last year we organized and launched the “JHS tour”. This initiative involved going to some selected middle schools throughout the capital - Accra - and talking on the theme “Strengthening the Foundation of Ghanaian Youth through Knowledge, Discipline and Integrity” to final year students aged between 14 -16. With last year’s tour receiving positive feedback from students and the heads of the various schools we went to, we decided to make the “JHS tour” an annual event. This year’s tour would be on the theme “the role of extracurricular activities, technology and values in building a well equipped Ghanaian youth ”. We need support from Gofund to help us achieve our goal for this year’s tour - which is to not only communicate to these young people in about two hours, but to have longetivity in the message we communicate through the use of a catalog which would be printed and placed in both school and public libraries for these kids. The catalog contains information specifc to the theme for this year’s tour which includes discussions on values, integrity, manners, the essence of extra curricular activities (with guides on how to undertake specific activities such as programming etc.), e-learning and how to acquire new skills.

Aside the use of funds for the printing 1000 copies of the catalogs written and edited by FLI members, logistical expenses such as purchasing of a projector, Public address system and cameras would also be catered for. The beneficiaries of these printed catalogs would be student participants in the JHS tour who would love to follow up on themes explored during the tour as well as the kids of all ages since these copies would be placed in school and public libraries. Support in the form of financial support for the “JHS Tour” Initiative would be needed as soon as possible in order to print copies of the catalogs for about 8 schools that would be visited.
