Jumpstart Justin’s Journey!

Just another quick update for those who are following our story.

Our new car is going well but we are STILL waiting on NDIS to have it modified! The extra space is great! :-) We now carry his wheelchair upright without dismantling it, we still have boot space for other things and his siblings aren't squashed in like sardines! There's also more door area to get him into his seat. Unfortunately it is a whole lot higher to lift him and his wheelchair into though. :-(

Justin recently had his 10TH birthday! He also got a new pair of glasses. He continues to grow and make progress. :-) Recently he has started to eat a whole lot better and is starting to put on more weight. Mostly that is good, except that he's getting heavier to lift and his growth and new diet has thrown a spanner in the works with his seizures. :-(

Thanks for all your support. Hopefully our next update will be to say our car has been modified!

Firstly, wow!! A heartfelt thank you to all who have contributed to our cause in the last little while and also all who have been involved in helping raise money!! We have been blown away by the support from local community groups and their contributions!!

We now have a car!! Late last year we made the decision to go ahead with the purchase of a van. The van has given us more room to transport Justin's new wheelchair and given us more door space to get Justin in and out of his current car seat. As he continues to grow, however, he is getting closer to outgrowing this seat and getting heavier to lift in and out of it.

We are now waiting on funding from the NDIS to modify the van. Justin started his NDIS plan late last year but money for car modifications is issued separately. Hopefully in the near future Justin's case will be reviewed. Once we have the go ahead for funding we will then be able to place our car in the production queue with the company so we can get the modifications done.

Justin now has his first wheelchair!! He just loves his new set of wheels!! I have uploaded a new picture of him in it. It hasn't taken him long to work out how to get around in it by using just one arm. He is so excited to have some more independence. His school teacher told us that he couldn't concentrate at school for the first few days because he was so excited!! Now all we need is our new modified van to tie it down in. :-)

Our fundraising target has been adjusted once again as we have been successful in securing some more funding outside of this campaign. We are hoping to have enough to get the car shortly and then get the modifications done at a later stage when our NDIS plan gets approved.

You may have noticed that we have revised our fundraising target to $50,000. With the introduction of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) in our area soon, we have now been advised to wait and hopefully get more assistance towards modifying our car under the new scheme.

We are also currently in the process of upgrading Justin to his first wheelchair! We are sure that Justin is going to love his new set of wheels!!
