My name is Tahlia and I am seeking your help for my cousin’s family and their son Justin, who is the sweetest 10 year old boy with the kindest heart.
Background:
Justin was born with Tuberous Sclerosis, a rare disease that caused him to have a brain malformation as well as benign tumours in his brain and other organs. This medical condition led to him suffering from cerebral palsy (right sided weakness), right hemianopia (right sided vision loss in both eyes), seizures, developmental delays and many other challenges. Justin has endured many appointments, therapy sessions, hospital visits, tests, operations (including 5 major brain surgeries in another state) and medication changes to get him to where he is today.
Justin is defying the odds against him and has now started to communicate verbally. He has also gained some strength and movement in his weak limbs and really loves trying to ‘walk’ when held up by his parents. There is still more progress to be made with his communication, physical capabilities and eating abilities, however his progress has already exceeded original expectations. Patients with Tuberous Sclerosis can lead fulfilling lives if given the appropriate support, which Justin's family certainly gives each day.
Why are we fundraising?
Justin currently is in a wheelchair and probably will be for the rest of his life. The current vehicle they use is very impractical and places excess physical strain on his parents to manoeuvre him into his current seat. It is not appropriate for future use as Justin continues to grow. With his parents and their 3 children living off one income, the situation of buying a van with wheelchair modifications amongst other medical expenses is beyond their reach.
How to help:
I understand this time of the year is one where giving is what we do, so I truly ask you from the bottom of my heart to please help this family get their Christmas wish. Justin and his family truly are a special family who deserve all the love and help you can give (every bit counts!).
Thank you in advance!
