Julia’s Volunteer Trip to Nepal

Hi family and friends!

I am traveling to Nepal for 4 weeks (Dec. 15- Jan. 12) to volunteer with an organization called Plan My Gap Year. I will be volunteering and staying on site at an orphanage that the organization partners with. The children there are between 5-16 years old.

I will be staying in the capital, Kathmandu, for a couple of days with the director, his family, and any other volunteers arriving at that time. While I am there I will be buying supplies such as books and games to donate to the orphanage. Then, I will travel to a more rural area of the country where the orphanage is located. I will be placed based on need in either Pokhara or Chitwan. During the week, I will be helping make meals, playing games, assisting with homework, and taking care of the orphanage's resources such as its land and animals. On the weekends, I will have some free time to explore the area with other volunteers as well.

I am excited I finally decided to do this... I've had the desire to volunteer abroad since middle school. I continue to volunteer around the Rochester community and learn so much from everyone I meet. I can't wait to learn from a new group of people. The children at these orphanages have been dealt an unfortunate and unfair hand in life, and I plan to support them in any way that I can.

Your donations will help offset some of the expenses I have already incurred, such as flights, travel insurance, and a visa. They will also allow me to purchase supplies in Nepal for the children. Purchasing these things in country will allow me to contribute to the local economy.
