Hi Friends and Family. On behalf of Judith Podadera, our babysitter for our three children, we are asking for donations so that she can receive a kidney transplant. She is scheduled to go back to the Philippines next month to finish the last round of tests before her surgery, and we want to do everything we can to try and help cover the cost of this life-saving procedure.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am fundraising to help Judith Podadera, our babysitter and housekeeper, to get a kidney transplant in the Philippines in July.

Judith joined our family in 2021 after our third child was born, as we needed extra help to manage our hectic schedule with three kids going to different schools. Judith has been highly cheerful and hard-working ever since she joined our family.

She is a single mother with two beautiful sons, Yuichi (24) and Yujiro (23).

Judith was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) Stage 4 about five years ago. CKD Stage 4, is the last stage before complete kidney failure (stage 5) and needs immediate care. Judith has been going to the doctor every other day for dialysis treatment that helps her body remove extra fluid and waste from her blood when the kidneys cannot. She spends 4 hours daily connected to this machine in her hospital bed.

Over the past months, Jeff and I have noticed that Judith has been experiencing extreme swelling, loss of appetite, difficulty concentrating, and nerve problems. We, therefore, discussed with her the option of getting a kidney transplant for her next stage of treatment. Unfortunately, it’s not easy as it sounds; even if you register yourself to Japan Organ Transplant Network (JOT), it will take over a decade to get a donor match. After careful consideration, we came to the conclusion that she should get a kidney transplant in the Philippines and have her youngest son Yujiro who lives in the Philippines, be the kidney donor.

Yujiro agreed and has done multiple blood tests, tissue typing tests, and pre-surgery health screening in Davao City, Philippines, their hometown. He is now waiting for his mother to return to the Philippines to do her tests, including the crossmatch checks to see how the recipient’s immune system may react to his donated kidney. Once all tests are done, the kidney transplant surgery will be scheduled around July at the National Kidney and Transplant Institute in Quezon City, Manila. The assigned doctor is Dr. Paolo Miguel David, who is also connected with Dr. Ishida of Tokyo Women’s Medical University, who will be her primary doctor after she returns to Japan.

The medical expense, including the pre-transplant evaluation, surgery, and medication, will cost about JPY4,000,000 ($30,000 USD). We are making all possible efforts to raise this money as Judith does not have enough savings to cover her costs. Although we will be providing the initial expenses related to the transplant, we would be extremely grateful if you could help us save Judith by contributing towards her medical treatment to reduce her financial debts.

Every little bit helps, and we are incredibly appreciative of any support you can provide. Thank you in advance for your generosity and kindness.

Thank you very much.
