We are a small group of social volunteers and social activists seeking to establish an online community radio station for Jamestown, Accra. We have previously worked with Act for Change to produce community participation projects in Ghana and we are now working in partnership with SOAS Radio to raise funds and get our project off the ground.
Jamestown is a historic district of Accra, and a popular tourist destination, but it is also a deprived area, neglected by the government and underserved by the media. JT LIVE RADIO seeks to increase public ownership of local issues, culture and identity, and provide a creative space for people to hear about and discuss things affecting their community.
The station will connect Jamestown's community, give people a voice, offer a creative outlet for local talent, celebrate Jamestown's vibrant culture, and increase engagement with social issues affecting the community. Content will be diverse, with a mix of entertainment, arts, music, local stories, debate and local news. Live broadcast events will provide opportunities for listeners to participate.
