Campaign Story
JP was diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy with Chronic Heart Failure in early 2016. Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a rare condition in which the heart's ability to pump blood is decreased because the heart's main pumping chamber, the left ventricle, is enlarged and weakened. In some cases, it prevents the heart from relaxing and filling with blood as it should.
For the entire 2016, he has been in and out of the hospital to undergo procedures such as angiogram and water retention management. He was advised by his cardiologists that there is no absolute cure to his illness as his heart muscles are already damaged. Recovery may take 10 years or more and the only thing that can be done is to focus on managing his health so that his heart will function better. He was discharged at the hospital on October 2016 and his heart failure improved in time.
In 2017, he and his wife learned that they were pregnant. It’s a miracle from God. Even his cardiologist was suprised that they were able to conceive despite his condition.
He and his wife faced a lot of challenges during the pregnancy. His wife was diagnosed with cervical incompetence and had to take a complete bed rest for the entire duration of the pregnancy. Being so worried for the health and safety of his wife and their rainbow baby brought some stress to him.
He only dismissed the feelings as tiredness when he first felt it but on March 21, 2018, he was unable to breath properly and so he was rushed to the ER. He was diagnosed with Chronic Heart Failure and was advised to stay at the hospital for water draining and pain management. His internal organs are retaining water due to his heart condition. He was discharged on March 27, 2018.
He spent most of his time in bed after the confinement but on April 8, 2018, he again had a hard time breathing and he was unable to move his body due to numbness. He was rushed again to the hospital and a series of tests were made. The numbness is apparently due to his heart failure and his blood pressure is dropping most of the time. He is expected to stay at the hospital for at least 2 weeks for further management.
