As most of you may know, I have the opportunity to represent South Africa as an amateur age group athlete at the XTERRA World Championship race on 28 OCTOBER 2018 in Maui, Hawaii.
The XTERRA World Championship is the world’s premier off-road triathlon, combining a 1.5-kilometer (1-mile) sea swim that starts at D.T. Fleming Beach, Kapalua, a 32-kilometer (20-miles) mountain bike leg that climbs 3,500 feet up and down the lower slopes of the West Maui Mountains, and a 10.5-kilometer (6.5-miles) trail run that traverses forest trails, and beach sand.
Amateur sport in South Africa is self-funded and unsupported and travelling all the way to Hawaii does not make any financial sense. It is however an opportunity I could not pass up on and with the support of my family we have decided to make it happen, and we have our flights and accommodation booked. Danie will be travelling with me to ensure that I don’t forget half of my luggage in transit somewhere.
In order to lessen the financial blow to hour household we have decided start the go get funding initiative.
