Greetings of peace and love,
Hi, my name is Janine and I am a yoga enthusiast.
work as a counselor and teacher in the Philippines. And while I am absolutely
thankful for the fulfilling job that I have, there are also moments when I feel
burnt out and low. With the demands of the job, I needed to find something that
can relieve my burdens at the end of each day. I go through hurdles too, just like everyone
else. The only way for me to keep on being able to do my job is to make sure
that I have something to give; and giving to myself is just as important as
giving to others – yoga was my way of doing that. This personal journey has
actually inspired me to want to learn more about yoga and deepen my yoga
practice so that I may also encourage and give back to others.
As a therapist-in-training, I usually handle cases of depression, ADHD, autism, eating disorders, bullying, self-harm, and other similar conditions. I am an advocate for holistic therapy as I personally believe and experienced it. Yoga was an integral part of my healing process and I believe that it can have the same, if not better effects to others as well. I have read studies and literature about the benefits of yoga for all and that is something I want to explore more too.
However, yoga is costly and still a bit sparse; at least here in the Philippines, I can say. It is unfortunate that mostly, only those people who can afford get the chance to practice yoga. It is my dream to teach yoga so that more people may experience it and its benefits; but for me to able to do that, I need to attend Yoga Certification/Teacher Trainings. Teacher Trainings come at hefty price tags and this is where I would need your help. A little can go a long way for this journey.
I want to be a Certified Yoga Instructor so that I may spread more light, love, and awareness. I recently participated in a scholarship giveaway and I was luckily awarded $1000 partial scholarship. I am ecstatic and grateful for the opportunity. However, a single training can cost more or less $5000 (USD), excluding airfare, visas, other requirements, and miscellaneous expenses. Costs are still pretty high and I must be able to participate this year (on or before November) or the grant might be forfeited.
Part of my goal, when I get certified, is to reach out to rural areas, especially to schools here in my country, which have not yet heard about yoga and maybe see if it can have positive effects to students. That is still a long way down, but I must begin somewhere. This is where I start. I believe yoga can be beneficial to all who are open and willing to practice. To those who will support me, I am sending you peace and blessings.
Om and namaste,
