Josh contracted dengue fever and needed urgent medical care. He is now home and well, but his mother Ria is in great debt from the medical bills and unable to provide for their daily needs!
When Josh came home from a school trip at the end of October not feeling well and did not show any improvement in his worryingly high fever, Ria knew something was wrong. On rushing him to the emergency department in the nearest hospital, Josh was diagnosed with the dengue virus fever and needed two pints of blood to treat him. Fortunately, he responded well to the treatment and only needed to spend one week in hospital, but that left Ria with a final bill of about PHP 99,200.
Ria and her family pawned all of their jewellery, phones, household items, and took out high interest loans to pay this bill so Josh could be released, at home and back in school.
However, Ria is without a job and has no means to pay back the loans or provide for herself and Josh.
Life was not always this way for Ria... when Ria and I became friends about 5 years, she was a retail manager in a small boutique. However, things took a turn for the worse, when the owner stopped paying her salary. After a few months of no wages, Ria left and, fast foward a year or so, raised the capital and opened her own boutique. But timing was against her, as the oil price dropped and the economy suffered, meaning she had to sell the business at a loss and return to the Philippines. In 2017, her mother died suddenly, and she has struggled to work and provide for herself and her son ever since.
Ria has been trying, and recently went to Hong Kong for work, but the wages were not enough and her debts so high, that when she could not pay her son's school fees in October, she tried to take her own life. She was soo depressed, that after almost 2 weeks in hospital her employer sent her home to the Philippines as she was unfit to work.
Within a couple weeks of being home, Josh fell ill.
Please spare what you can, no matter how small, to help clear the back log of debt until Ria can get back into employment and back on her feet.
Thank you, on behalf of Ria and Josh!
God bless you.
