Josh’s Journey

On Labor Day 2015, my husband was in a horrific car accident that has left him paralysed from the neck down.

My husband Josh (38) suffered from a C4 complete spinal cord injury. He is considered a quadriplegic.

Today marks his 90th day in the hospital and we will most likely remain here until the Spring of 2016. Our home is nearly 4 hours away.

We are a blended family of 5 beautiful children. Since the accident, time spent with our children had been limited due to distance and cost.

A catastrophic event like this is tough financially. There are so many expenses involved and the overwhelming feeling of "how and where" is a scary scary feeling.

The needed things are these before we can even consider going home are:

Major home adaptations. The VA will cover some things like a ramp and $2500 to remodel the bathroom. At minimum we need a wall knocked down for Josh to be able to get into the front door and all of the doorways widened.

We need a handicap accessible vehicle. The VA will help with a small amount toward a vehicle, but because Josh is 5'11" he is considered tall in the handicap world and requires at minimum a full size van in order to get around. The cost is substantial and stagaring.

I am shooting for the stars here hoping we can get a push financially so we can get the things we need for Josh to come home. March or April of 2016 seems so far away, but realistically the time to get things in place is fast approaching.
