"Be the change you wish to see in the world."
I've recently been accepted into an international volunteer program called EDventure International. For three weeks I will partake in vonteer activities in Thailand to aid in elephant conservation and help improve the education system offered to the local children.
What is EDventure International?
"EDventure is an international volunteer organisation aimed at helping local communities in Thailand, Costa Rica, Cambodia and South Africa, while also helping the participants in the programs to develop leadership skills and discover their inner strengths necessary to continue benefiting their local communities."
What will I be doing and why should it matter?
I will be traveling with EDventure as a volunteer working to improve the education system available to the local children of Thailand. I will also spend part of my time in Thailand working in an elephant conservation center. On my program, I will spend 3 weeks engaging in leadership development workshops with other volunteers and applying these skills directly to projects in the elephant conservation centers and local schools in Thailand.
I will be directly involved in creating positive change in these communities. While working in the classroom I will aid children in learning to read and write, and improve the overall classroom environment to make it a more suitable place for the children to learn. During my time at the elephant conservation center, I will take care of elephants, a species which is becoming endangered in Thailand. This will include feeding, bathing and building shelters for the elephants. I will also work to educate the locals of Thailand how to better take care of their elephants as to prevent further endangerment of the species.
As part of the programs I will also engage in local cultural activities within the country. These will help me to understand and build bridges with another culture that will further develop my global leadership skills.
These overseas experiences will no doubt push me beyond my comfort zone, and allow me to fully experience learning in a way that I haven’t before experienced. In addition, this experience will give me the skills I need to enhance my resume and prepare me to be an asset in the professional world as I pursue a career in journalism with National Geographic.
Helping pay for this program will not only benefit those less fortunate around the world but will also help me grow and develop as an individual. It will allow me to make a difference in the world and a difference in myself as I walk this path into adulthood. I firmly believe if we want to live in a better world we have to get up and do what it takes to make it better ourselves. I feel that attending the EDventure program will allow me to make a bigger difference in this world than I ever thought possible, but only if you help me do so.
Thank you for your support :)
