Sometimes things don’t always go as planned or even hoped.

Our second son was born on the 1st of May 2022. 10 days earlier than expected due date.
Had an incredible pregnancy, just like the first. The plan was for natural delivery all the way, just like our first. Having done it before, we didn’t expect to find out a few days before his arrival that natural was not going to be possible, due to baby being too big, facing the wrong way, and have had gone into labor twice the weekend before, with no progress.

We had to make the call and planned a c-section for May the 3rd. This already threw us off budget totally! Ps. We don’t have medical aid.

With a few days to go to the planner c - section date, baby was ready to meet the world! Two days earlier than expected.

The labor pains started at about 10pm, just like they did the weekend before. I thought they would go away on their own. I took a hot bath and that didn’t happen. Nature was taking its way, and the labor was progressing! Rushed to the hospital where they stopped the contractions and booked me in for an emergency c-section. Baby was born weighing in at 3.7kgs. The procedure went well, we are lucky enough to have amazing doctors assisting with the birth!

The Peadiatrician picked up a heart murmur, and was not comfortable with how fast he was breathing.
We had to check out the hospital we were in and move to a different hospital with better caring facilities for our newborn.

He went straight into the NICU ward where they monitored him and did checks to see what is happening. (All this at a much higher cost than we originally anticipated on.

The hospital. Doctors and specialists are aware we do not have medical aid cover, so they were taking us into consideration when planning the next step of tests etc. An Echo check for his little heart would cost over R80 000, which I highly doubt anyone has at their disposal. Keeping that in mind the doctors started checking other routes and causes for this fast breathing.

……more checks and meds = higher hospital bill…….

He has picked up some infection, and was starting to dehydrate. His been put on a drip, which is helping a lot for the dehydration and antibiotics to help his tiny body fight whatever is not suppose to be there.

We cannot take chances when it comes to this new little life in the world, who already means so much us, and who’s big brother is eager to meet him!!

Our family would be eternally grateful for any donations towards helping us get our son who is only two days old, the tests and medication he needs to recover soon and go home to meet the rest of the family! ♥️

1 week old!

Jordan is a whole week old! Breathing has slowed down a lot compared to when he first came home. Still times where it seems a bit fast, but I can see improvements daily. He is feeding well, sleeping well and filling out nicely, starting to look healthier by the day.

Medical bills

Update posted by Shantal Schmidt at 04:38 pm

We are now in over R100 000 debt, with overdrafts, loans and credit cards. And all savings drained. Even so, not all the hospital bills have been paid. Any donation at all will be so helpful towards caring for this little guy and his older brother. We thank you in advance
