Jordae’s Transition Fund

Hello everybody. My name is Jordae, and I'm a 24-year-old transgirl living in Cape Town, South Africa. After many years of suffering from depression and social anxiety, because I was not happy with the gender I was assigned to at birth, I have finally decided to start the journey of transitioning to the person my mind, heart and soul have always wanted me to be.

Growing up in Zimbabwe, a country where the LGBTQ+ community is persecuted and discriminated against, it is very challenging and scary for members of our community to openly be themselves. This is a country where the law is not on our side, and LGBTQ+ people can even face serious jail time. It is also not safe to openly be yourself in public because LGBTQ+ people are often harassed and assaulted just for being who they are.

As a child, it was never an option for me to even attempt at wearing the female clothes or high-heels I always yearned to wear, or put on make-up and paint my nails like all the other girls my age were doing, and that pulled me into a great depression growing up. I also suffered from severe social anxiety because I didn't fit in with all the other boys, so I did not have any friends.

It was when I started having suicidal thoughts that I finally decided I will move to a country where I can openly be myself without any judgement, fear of persecution, and discrimination, so I moved to South Africa, and it was probably one of the best decisions I have ever made. Living here and being my true authentic self has made me realise just how happy and liberated a person can be just by being themselves. But as much as I can be myself here and dress up like a woman, it still doesn't eradicate my yearning to be in a female body.

So because of the reasons stated above, I've been held back from living my truth for so many years, I have decided to start this fund in hopes that I can raise enough money to pay for my transition. As you may already know, doctor's visits and medication can be very costly, and as hard as I've tried, so far, I simply cannot afford it. However, the money I'm hoping to raise is not entirely for doctor's visits and medication; it will also go toward my Gender Reassignment Surgery, Breast Augmentation, and Facial Feminization Surgery (FFS).
