In 2015, John Mercer and a group of fellow students from Langley Grammar School will be travelling to South America to take part in an expedition that will see them build a greenhouse in a village in the mountains of Bolivia. The mountain villages of Bolivia are at such a great altitude that it is impossible to grow certain foods without the use of such a greenhouse. The costs of this project would not normally be affordable to the village but through the volunteering efforts of these intrepid 17 years olds, it is hoped that lives can be not just improved but transformed.
By sponsoring John on his fundraising activities, your donation will help him raise the £4,000 he needs to raise to pay for his travel, food, accommodation and together with the other students, all the building materials necessary for the greenhouse. In the summer of 2014, John and his family will complete the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge during which they will walk 25 miles across the Penines in not more than 12 hours - quite a task for even experienced walkers! If you are sponsoring one of the family for this walk, thank you on behalf of all.
What makes this project even more impressive is that, in addition to these volunteers being so young, they will be doing all the work themselves, including all the arrangements for the trip (accommodation, food, travel, etc). And they will be constructing the greenhouse too. Every last bit. So please, give what you can and help John in this fantastic, life-changing endeavour!
