A 5 year old’s 3rd chance in life

We are here once again to seek your prayers and kind assistance as we face yet another obstacle in Ahren's road to full recovery. Let us share with you the battles our brave son fought within the past year.

Nov 2017 - our 4 year old boy was rushed to the ER due to Ruptured Appendicitis.

March 2018 - 4 months after his appendectomy, he started to show signs of intestinal obstruction: abdominal pain and vomitting. He was rushed to the ER again and was confined for observation. A few hours in, his condition declines rapidly with weakened pulse, bloated stomach, and cold clammy extremities. This resulted to an emergency operation that our brave little Ahren faced.

The diagnosis was Hypovolemic shock secondary to mechanical intestinal obstruction (closed loop) s/p appendectomy (Nov 2017). In other terms, one part of his small intestines got twisted causing the blockage. Due to his critical state that requires round-the-clock care, he was transferred to the Pediatric ICU to ensure a safe recovery post operation. There, he was placed on a ventilator for weeks because of his insufficient breathing. It was a slow recovery that lasted almost a month before he was finally discharged from the hospital.

April 2018 - after 2 weeks of being discharged, Ahren experienced yet another recurrence of his symptoms. As recommended by his physician, an Upper GI Series was done last June 2018

June 2018 - Upper GI Series impression was "cannot rule out the possibility of partial small intestinal obstruction".

August 22, 2018 - Ahren was rushed again to the ER due to the same persistent abdominal pain and vomitting. The doctors did a conservative approach and managed the symptoms thru IV fluids and NGT that lasted 11 days.

To date, our little boy is stil in pain, still malnourished. But he keeps on fighting. We sought a second opinion regarding Ahren's deteriorating health. This uncovered another fear - that Ahren would have to undergo surgery once more. His 3rd surgery.

The doctor said the surgery will be amounting roughly 100k to 300k depending on the procedure required. His multiple confinements and 2 surgeries in the past year has caused great financial hardships in our family. We are trying to raise funds now so that Ahren's 3rd surgery could be performed, God allows, as soon as possible at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH).
