Hi everyone,

We are helping our friend Johann Rossouw through a difficult time in his life. He was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 brain cancer. On July 25, 2019, Johann was found unconscious and rushed to hospital in an ambulance. After various tests and a brain scan it was confirmed he had an enormous tumor in his brain. It was the first time we knew anything about it.

Following a lengthy and intensive surgery to remove the cancerous tumor from his brain, he is now set to undergo intensive radiation therapy and chemotherapy for 30 days. Johann is extremely weak and unable to do anything for himself and needs 24 hour care. Following the surgery Johann got sick and contracted pneumonia and doctors also found a pulmonary embolism so he had to return to hospital for a while to get over that.

We have paid out around NT$250,000 for some selective surgeries, treatments and medication to ensure he gets the best chance possible to make it through this. Johann also needs to travel to the hospital every day by taxi and bu to get his radiation and chemotherapy treatments. This is costing around $30,000 a month.
Johann’s recovery is expected to take around 6 months and he needs to have a live in caretaker with him all day. The caretaker costs NT$23,000 per month.

Johann has exhausted all of his savings and of course he cannot work so that means the financial responsibility falls on his friends and family only. We have been able to help him, but it’s still not enough. Johann has lived and worked in Taiwan for more than 14 years and he’s only in his forties. He has many years of life left in him. Doctors have said that if radiation and chemotherapy are successful and nothing goes wrong in the next 6 months he should have a good fighting chance.

We are hoping that the community in Taiwan and overseas can help Johann get through this difficult period. He is in a pretty desperate situation.

2019.07-26 0:52來自南非的約翰和他可愛的學生一起在台灣教學，被帶到急診室，發現了腦腫瘤。 2019.08-05 6:37開顱手術切除腫瘤。這是9小時不停的手術行動。

2019.08.26 ,經過31天治療他可以出院回家休息了。但他現在仍然暫時無法工作。他的學校，因為沒有為他保勞保。 所以他可能不會從政府勞動保險局得到支持和申請勞保相關給付。現在他需要你的支持來幫助他康復，支付相關龐大的醫療費用及交通費用，照護費用及獲得更好的治療跟照顧。

2019.09.9 因疾病住院. 還在住院治療中,房東經學校通知他必須搬離泰山區住所無法延長居住。現在無法工作與活動不便狀況下，面臨人生困境。

2919-9-23：他被通知被迫必需搬離泰山住所,因此無法如期就近於林口醫院做治療，他在尋找可供他短暫居住地方及半天的就醫協助，可以幫助他一起去林口醫院 ,因行動不便，他從友人們借宿地點（新竹）到醫院進行30～60天的相關治療非常耗時,體力,交通。因為他在南非的家人也不能來台灣。所以在任何地方，如果有朋友有地方提供林口.泰山.桃園住宿及每日半天時間會有所幫助。 或亦可幫他找到學校在泰山附近住所居住，讓他方便就醫與繼續教書生活下去。

Johann 持續接受放療與化療，沒有收入的他只能靠朋友們捐款幫助渡過難關。他身體變的虛弱許多，無法工作的他，只能靠著健保的支持 ，繼續接受基本治療與接下來必要的開刀手術。本月將再進行腫瘤手術。
