Joan’s Fight Against Breast Cancer #OneForJoan

Joan G. Abanil is not just our colleague but a sister who is always ready to defend you in all circumstance.She is a 28-year old web developer who's always on the move in the pursuit of her dreams. She is smart, a strong personality and her passion to help humanities moved her to participate on Red Cross and volunteer movements on her youth.

She is an avid mountain climbing enthusiast. Together with her climbing group, she has been to the highest peaks of the country. She's also into free diving, fun and trail runs, and other extreme activities that are physically challenging to anyone her age. She's a picture of young, vibrant and healthy woman.

However, everything went upside down when she was diagnosed with Stage 3 HER2-positive Breast Cancer last August 2018. Doctors often consider HER2-positive breast cancers to be more aggressive than other types of breast cancer. She had undergone subcutaneous mastectomy to remove an 11cm tumor.

But 7 months after the diagnosis and the surgery, the tumor recurred now measuring 10.8cm. Latest CT Scan and lab results indicate that it has already metastasized on her bones and lymph nodes. As hard as it is to hear, Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer they say cannot be cured. However, we are not giving up the fight. She still maintains a positive outlook and a faith that she will get healed. There is hope in the treatment we are raising funding for, and without it there are no good options. We are in a race against time and we certainly need your financial help.
