Jesus’s EDventure

Hello, my name is Jesus Castillo; I am currently a freshman at the University of Houston: Main Campus. My major at the moment is computer engineering; however I have plans to double major alongside computer information systems and receive a minor in psychology.

This June I hope to participate in a leadership volunteer program overseas with EDventure.   EDventure is an educational leadership volunteer organization which offers its participants leadership and personal development certification, whilst engaging in volunteer projects in the developing world. I am writing you to request sponsorship for a small portion of my program costs.  I will be traveling with EDventure as a volunteer working on a humanitarian project in South Africa. On my program, I will spend 3 weeks engaging in leadership development workshops with other volunteers and directly applying these skills to projects, schools, and orphanages in South Africa. Additionally, I will be directly involved in creating positive change in these communities. This includes teaching small children, who have lost their parents to diseases such as AIDS, drugs, or have been abandoned completely. I will also help the children by teaching physical education like playing sports, since most people do not have the ability to buy equipment or are unable to travel to places that do. Another part of the program will be interacting and helping with local businesses that make a variety of products out of bamboo and other home-grown resources. I believe that this opportunity will help build my leadership skills by allowing me to see the large amount of diversity and situations both positive and negative around the world.
