Jessica’s Revolution – Uganda 2013

Hey Guys! 

My name is Jessica Quigley, I am currently in year 12 at Wantirna College, and at the end of this year I am headed off for a different type of "Schoolies" It is call Schoolies Revolution! Schoolies Revolution is a part of HopeBuilders International. 

Schoolies Revolution gives the chance for year 12 students to take on a new experience by travelling overseas to either Uganda/Africa or India and Sri Lanka. It is an alternative to the "traditional" schoolies celebrations.

"Schoolies Revolution - Turning Around A Generation"

As part of this wonderful trip, a group of 14 students and 4 leaders will be staying in The Village of Hope. The Village of Hope currently has 10 homes which house up to 8 orphans (majority are taken out of the local slum and of whose parents have been victims of AIDS) and a house mother (who in most cases would be a widow). These homes provide the opportunity for these children to grow up in as close to a family environment as possible.

On My Trip

My group and I will have many different opportunities on this trip, together as a group we will be a part of constructing the 11th house in the Village, being able to play with the children and as well as learning from the "house mothers" We will be visiting many different places in the Village and around the area of Uganda these will include the local slum, schools, churches as well as the local town. 

I am sure that this is going to be a fun but a challenging experience and I cannot wait to be a part of something so special, with just lending a hand, it can make a huge difference to the lives of others

This is definitely going to be an eye opening experience and I cannot wait to leave! But I just need a little help getting there. I have already saved and paid $1,500 and my goal is to raise the last $800! This will go to funding the rest of my costs which include vaccinations, passport, airfares and accommodation, in order for me to get to Uganda
