JSAR does not receive any taxpayer or state/local funding so we depend solely on community support. Due to some recent unexpected costs, we are DROWNING in bills.

JSAR rescues abused, abandoned, neglected, and homeless cats and kittens. We are dedicated to providing medical care to every animal in our rescue. We also strongly believe in population control, so all of our animals are spayed or neutered prior to being available for adoption. A lot of our cats are found on the streets of Camden, NJ (historically, one of the worst cities in the United States) in poor condition and require traditional care such as vaccinations, deworming, flea treatment, testing and spay/neuter. Many of them also require more extensive medical treatment for a large number of ailments. Even with the discount that our vets provide and the adoption fees that we receive, we still lose money on EVERY cat that we adopt out to a new family.

In the past we have been able to make ends meet despite the extensive medical care and daily expenses through generous donations, adoption fees, fundraisers at local eateries, pet sitting jobs (100% of this money goes right into the rescue fund) and selling pretzels and baked goods at PetSmart in West Berlin every weekend.

Recently, we've run into some hard times. The person running our rescue has run into financial difficulties due to multiple health issues requiring surgery and being unable to work. In addition, there have been other financial setbacks which were unexpected, including the head of household losing his job. Our normal facility operating expenses, including gas and electric (running 5 air conditioning units in the summer months!) were previously paid by this individual. The rescue must now shoulder all of these costs.

We've run into some necessary repairs to our facility which we are having trouble coming up with the funds to take care of. The floor of one of our buildings needs to be replaced. The original contractor that built this cat house used particleboard for the floor and untreated wood to frame it out. The floor is now partially collapsed and the contractor that we trusted, has not made good on his promise to take care of it. We have had a few different estimates and the lowest price we could get for the repairs is $6000. We need these repairs done ASAP.

Other unexpected costs include repairing the washer that we use daily to clean the towels, rags, blankets, bedding, etc used in the rescue, plus our septic pump also broke and it overflowed out onto the back of the property. We had to have someone come dig it out and replace the pipe which carries the draining water. These 2 things could not wait so they were put on a personal credit card.

Jersey State Animal Rescue is a small group of people who have come together for one purpose: to help as many animals in need as we can. Please help us so that we do not have to turn away any cats or kittens in desperate need. We depend on donations to make this happen. The photos in our gallery are of the floor needing repair and some cats that we've recently helped in before and after photos. Please help us to continue to make these cats shine and find their forever homes
