Our Love Story with God: Confronting Cancer with Courageous Faith

Our journey began on Valentine's Day, a day usually filled with love and joy, but for us, it marked the beginning of a challenging chapter. Admitted to the hospital due to severe anemia, we never anticipated the whirlwind that awaited us. Within those ten days, Jeremi underwent a colonoscopy, only to discover a tumor sitting just 4 cm from his rectum.

Two days later, Jeremi underwent a major operation to resect my colon and for the colostomy however the surgeon couldn't remove the tumor due to its delicate position. Following a series of tests, including a confirmatory CT-Scan, the grim truth emerged: the tumor is confirmed to be colon cancer, a very aggressive one.

After five more days and with overwhelming hospital bills mounting, we were discharged, forever changed by the news. He now faced a life with a permanent colostomy, and we made the decision to rent out our home and move back to his parents house, where he could recuperate and ready ourselves for the challenging journey ahead- OUR FIGHT WITH CANCER!

It was 2 weeks ago when we learned that it was stage 4 colon cancer! Because it’s very aggressive so we need to be more aggressive! Instantly his medical Onco went head and referred us to the Lung Center of the Philippines for radiotherapy to manage the bone metastasis (he was suffering lower back pain due to herniated disc since July 2023 where we were religiously doing PT sessions- was confirmed to be mets!). His oncologist, proactively looked for a voucher to cover the KRAS/NRAS testing to check for mutation which would cost us P30,000 to 35,000. At this time we knew that it was God who was leading the way.

So, on 03/07, during the ride to the Lung Center, he was overwhelmed and crying because he knew we didn't have the money to pay for radiotherapy and wanted to go home. Despite this, we didn't give up; we arrived at the Lung Center 30 minutes early with our motto "Bahala na, magagawan ng paraan yan" (don’t worry, we will find a way)! Since his case was categorized as an emergency, we were accepted for radiotherapy, and on that day, we began his first out of 10 sessions. The cost was a staggering P54,000, and as the staff explained, my mind was going all math and doing its compartmentalizing thing. However, God truly provides—PhilHealth covered the costs excluding the professional fee, and his PWD discount was immensely helpful too. Now, with the professional fee of P16,000, another miracle happened—we were given more than a 50% discount.

God revealed himself once again.

Fast forward to March 15th, my birthday, we received the results of the KRAS/NRAS testing—another blow as we learned that the tumor had mutated. Despite the added complexity and cost, we found solace in Dr. Che's treatment plan and options for financial assistance.

Every day since that first CT scan, I've wrestled with questions for God—why Jeremi? Why us? While the answers remain elusive, one thing is certain: amidst the chaos, God sends His angels in the form of family, friends, and even strangers. From the unwavering support of our loved ones to the kindness of our community in Cainta and Fairview, we've felt His presence guiding us through this tumultuous journey.

As we prepare for the challenging journey ahead, I humbly request your prayers—for strength, healing, and even miracles. If you're able, any contribution towards Jeremi's medical expenses and upcoming chemotherapy would be greatly appreciated. We've begun reaching out to various organizations and government offices, but the road ahead remains daunting. Your support, whether through prayer or action, will serve as our guiding light as we navigate the uncertain path ahead.

Together, let us continue this love story—our story—with unwavering faith and boundless hope, trusting that God's love will carry us through even the darkest of nights.

Sincerely Yours,

Fred (Jeremi's Wife)
