Dear Friends and Family,
On October 14th I will be running the Oxford Half Marathon to raise money for Jennifer Hospedales, a dear family friend who has been paralysed from the neck down by a condition called Transverse Myelitis, an inflammation of the spinal cord. The causes of this disorder are not known and at present there is no cure.
Before she became paralysed, Jen, who lives in Trinidad, was an active and busy person who cared for her young granddaughter while her daughter worked, as well as caring for her sister who suffers from Alzheimers. Now she is confined to her bed 24 hours a day and depends on a nurse for round the clock care. Jen is currently hospitalised and receiving treatment for septicemia following complications from a bladder infection, making the need for funds even more desperate.
This will be my first (and probably my last!) half marathon. I have been in training for several weeks already and my goal is to complete the race in under two hours. All of the money which I raise will go straight towards the payment of the 24 hour care on which Jen depends. Your donation, however large or small, will make a huge difference to her life, and would be very gratefully received.
With love and much thanks
