This fall I will be living and volunteering in Cusco at an after-school center. I am thrilled and blessed to have this opportunity and appreciate any support you can share.
75% of the proceeds will be donated to the after-school organization C.O.R.A.Z.O.N.
UBELONG after-school center assistance project in Cusco, Peru
A litte about C.O.R.A.Z.O.N...
- This Christian organization was founded about 12 years ago, and in 2008 a regular children’s club was started. Located on the outskirts of Cusco, about 50 disadvantaged families live nearby. On average 25-30 enthusiastic but under-privileged children attend, benefitting from educational and play opportunities which aid their development. The directors, pastors of a local church, along with volunteer coordinator Carrie Kleinschmidt, have divided the children into three age groups, developed an English program, refurbished the club room and started to construct a sports pitch and kitchen. This is a growing project and volunteers are making a big contribution to its development and to the future of the children in this community.
A little about my project...
- I will be working with children ages 4 to 16. These children come from disadvantaged families and the center offers them a positive and safe environment to come to after school. I will be collaborating in a program aimed at meeting the educational, physical, psychological and social needs of the children. Some activities include demonstrating good health and hygiene habits, helping the children with English, math and other homework; and leading discussions about topics like the environment and self-esteem.
