Hi everyone!
Thanks for clicking on the fundraiser and having a read of what I am doing. I need your help!
I am currently a teacher of students that all have Special educational needs and disabilities, and students that all have social, emotional and mental health needs in the UK. Many of my students are also Young Carers, and all these can cause many boundaries and challenges for students to get through their education. All this is something that is extremely close to my heart and the reason I do what I do is because I want to be someone that I needed when I was at school!
This is what has led me to think about the bigger picture, and although I am only 1 person and I cannot change the world (unfortunately), I do believe I can make a difference to the children in Kenya who are also faced with an unthinkable amount of challenges when trying to get through their childhoods. I believe every child should have the resources offered to them to gain a basic education, but unfortunately in many cases this is not happening.
Therefore, I have decided to Volunteer in a town in Nairobi for three weeks, and here I will live with a local family. During my time here I will be volunteering around the community (which includes helping to build further education facilities) and spending 4-6 hours a day teaching the children.
This is where I need your help!
I have funded the trip myself and it is a volunteer programme. There is many opportunities to help with resources and buy extra's to donate to the community and the schools whilst I am out there! This includes bottled water, clothing, school resources such as pens, paper, and games such as bat and balls etc. I have also added extra luggage on so I will therefore be filling this up prior to leaving. I am aware I can ask for donations of resources however I then run the risk of having too much, and with whatever money is left over I can donate this to the local community/families before I leave.
Due to not having enough time, I cannot organise a fundraising night as I would have liked to. So, In June I will be running 50 miles towards this to help raise as much as possible!
I know times are hard at the moment for everyone, so any help is absolutely appreciated. Any donation, however small or large will help the children out there so much more than I can ever explain!
Thank you for taking the time to read, and I really hope you can help and support me!
