JB’s Operation and Medical Cost

My son had an operation on October 17, 2018 at the Manila Medical Hospital. It was a left decompressive hemicraniectomy for a ruptured AVM. In other words, they had to open a part of my son’s skull to relieve pressure caused by damaged and swollen blood vessels in his brain.

My son is a grade 9 student. He was a lively and highly athletic member of his school’s basketball and volleyball teams. He was injected on September of 2018 with the Dengvaxia dengue vaccine, which the school required all their 9 to 16-year-old students to take. The school nurse even called twice to ask if JB has been given the vaccine, prompting us to get him vaccinated at the health center near our community.

A month after vaccination, I began to notice that he was increasingly feeling tired or sleepy and had lost much of his appetite. I asked him what was wrong, but he said that he was okay. We guessed that he was just getting himself more tired and didn’t think to have him checked by a doctor.

On October 17, 2018, his school called to inform me that JB was being rushed to a hospital emergency room. Due to non-stop vomiting, he was given a percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy tube, which is a tube used to put liquid food directly into his stomach. He got a CT scan, an X-Ray, and an MRI scan; and we quickly discovered that his brain was bleeding and that he had to have an operation on that same day. A large part of his skull was removed and he stayed in intensive care for 15 days.

He currently cannot move half his body and is being given therapy to help him talk properly again.He was supposed to have a second operation last April, 2019, to fix the veins in his head and to repair his skull but the Pandemic has depleted our funds. We have no more money for the operation, which is why I created this GogetFunding page to ask anyone who can possibly help us to donate any amount possible so that my son can have his operation this coming June.
