Campaign Story
My name is Jasmine Christopher Barboa and I am a sophomore at Arizona State University (ASU) in Tempe, Arizona. I am majoring in Digital Culture with an emphasis in music and minoring in Vocal Performance through Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts. I am in Barrett, the Honors College at ASU, and have been a Dean’s List Student for all semesters I have attended college and currently carry a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.94.
Ever since I knew it was possible, I have always wanted to travel and see the world. I chanced upon an opportunity within my direct major and have been now striving towards it. This opportunity is ASU’s Design and Society in Amsterdam: Visualizing the Invisible. It submerges students into a world of Dutch artists and designers to tackle problems that threaten human life and dignity—poverty, immigration, and climate change—and explores societal problems with a critical lens. The program will last from May 30thto July 27thwhich is about 6 weeks. My career goal will undoubtedly place me in a creative and diverse field that requires me to specialize in international mindsets and views. This program will give me vital experiences that I will be able to cherish and use for the rest of my life.
Over the course of this study abroad program, a handful of other ASU students and I will get to meet, talk, and work alongside Dutch artists and designers. We will be immersed in the rich history of Amsterdam and its design in fashion, architecture, graphic design, social design, and speculative design. We will also live in the heart of the city and enjoy the 400km of bike paths in the most bike-friendly city in the world. There will be day trips to Rotterdam, Utrecht, and The Hague to further immerse ourselves in the culture of the Netherlands. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity that I am extremely excited for.
As you can imagine, embarking on this trip depends on financial support. The program fee is $8,996, which does not include tertiary fees, day to day meals, international airfare, and personal expenses. However, the program fee does include all tuition, housing, excursions, and workshop events. My fundraising goal is to cover the expenses that are not included in the tuition as well as some of the tuition cost. So far, I have been applying to scholarships, fundraising, and working part-time to help fund my expenses, but this is not enough. I ask for your help in making a donation towards this study abroad program in Amsterdam. Your contributions will help me complete my university program requirements and will help me take part in a life-changing opportunity.
I hope you can help me reach my goal and that you can see the value in what will be accomplished during my time abroad. I would be extremely grateful if you could help sponsor my participation on this trip. By making a contribution of any amount towards my goal, you would be helping me take this exciting step into this amazing opportunity. I would be happy to talk with you at any time to discuss my academic achievements, extracurricular activities, and more about the program in Amsterdam. If you would like to speak, please contact me at [email protected]. Also, I will be posting regular updates of my time in Amsterdam on my Facebook page at “Jasmine Barboa” and my Instagram page “@ja33i” so that you can follow along my journey if you wish. If you choose to contribute $100 or more, I will personally send you a postcard from Amsterdam!
Overall, thank you so much for your time and consideration, I truly appreciate it!
