Thank you very much for coming this far and checking out my project and I hope that we can go a little further!
My name is Jason Williams, I am a young indigenous man currently living in sunbury, Victoria, who is about to embark on 3 month social science internship with "save the children" in Playa del carmen, Mexico.
I am looking to further my knowledge and experience in my work and culture and require assistance in raising money to get to Mexico. As an indigenous Australian I see the importance of using and sharing my learnings and the power in sharing my knowledge with other young people. This opportunity will lead to me being willing to learn about a culture that isn't mine, and embrace what it has to offer, so I can bring all my learning and skills back to the indigenous community in Australia.
The internship itself cost $5511. Flights are roughly $2500 and I will be living in Mexico for just over 3 months so I am looking to have saved $10000 before I head over.
As an incredible internship that is linked into what I am wanting to pursue,(Leadership and service position within the indigenous communities or business, global indigenous and non indigenous aid and developments and dealing with indigenous issues in government, eduction, health and social sciences) it would make for an amazing opportunity to learn different techniques and methods of teaching.
I am current leading my community in a number of ways such- working with The Salvation Army Crossroads Youth & Family services also with the Australian Indigenous Mentoring Experience (AIME), study a bachelor of arts Kyinandoo at Victoria university and player welfare and mentoring for the Laguntas football program at the Korin Gamadji Institue (KGI).
My passion is learning and understanding culture, both my own and others and I truely believe that this internship will not only allow me to live my passion every day but it will also give me the opportunity to share my enthusiasum and allow others to join me on my quest to continue growing!
