Hi there! We are a team of final year film students from Nanyang Technological University's School of Art, Design and Media and we are working on our thesis film, Janus.

ABOUT THE FILM

Set in a public housing unit of present day Singapore, a reclusive freelance musician struggles to pay rent to his ailing landlord. Hoping to overcome his creative rut, he engages in a voyeuristic creative exercise, but in the process, he is forced to confront a wound from his past.

DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT

Janus is a psychological drama about self-blame and its debilitating effects on a person. I believe that self-blame is an aspect of mental health that is something we often overlook or underestimate, especially when it is borne from grief. It is a coping mechanism that creates an illusion of control, and often prevents the person from overcoming past traumas.

Through our reclusive protagonist, I hope to create a world manipulated by this insidious illusion of control through the voyeuristic perspective of camera and the emotive functions of music. I believe the experience of the film should thus reflect a reality where the line between what is truth, and what is lie, is blurred.
