Campaign Story
Nǐ hǎo,
my name is Janosch, I am 22 years old and am currently enrolled in an International Business program at a university in Germany. Earlier this year, I was accepted by my dream university in Guangzhou, China, which is probably one of the biggest cities you have never heard of (12m inhabitants). So this fall, I will go far far east to the dragon’s country to continue my studies without Google, YouTube, Gmail and some other very essential websites. I will leave my girlfriend of three years behind (but she is going to visit me, so I’m looking at the bright side), and I won’t see my family and all friends except for occasional skype sessions :(
I am a very open minded person, my friends describe me as outgoing and fun, always seeking challenges without staying in my comfort zone. And this is exactly why I want to go to China and not the US, UK, Australia, Spain or South America - everything in the next semester will be something new to me. While life and Uni would be definitely easier in any of the above countries, living in China is way more challenging and hopefully exciting. I don’t really speak any Chinese and in Guangzhou, which is not a touristic city, almost nobody speaks English. In addition, there is a huge cultural difference between western countries and asian countries. After school I was living and working in Spain for a few months and it took me some time to adjust to the spanish mentality. In China, I expect this to be way more distinct.
I am super excited for this adventure, but sadly it is a rather costly one. I was able to save some money from working part-time, but I couldn’t save the whole amount I need. :(
That is why I need your help!I made approximate list with all my expenses. I try to be as humble as possible with my living expenses in China, the same as at home.
€2,000 - tuition
€1,000 - both flights
€400 - vaccination
€200 - visa costs
€750 - rent (5x€150, cheapest available on campus)
€1,500 - other living expenses (food etc.)
€200 - laptop (I do have a chromebook, but I have to sell it since it’s basically unusable in China due to internet restrictions)
-------------
€6,050
This seems like a huge amount of money to me and I won’t be able to fund this alone. As I wrote above, I saved up some money. As of right now, I have saved up about €2000. If my math is right, I "only" need €4,050. To make it look more neat:
My GoFundMe goal is €4,000!
Hopefully you are one of the suuuuuper nice and generous persons to help me finance this undoubtedly life-changing experience. <3To make your decision easier, I offer a few rewards! :)
€1 - my everlasting gratitude
€30 - you receive a postcard, handwritten and very personal :)
€80 - A souvenir! I have no idea what I can get in Guangzhou but be sure that I’ll pick something cool
€200 - If you are this crazy, you should receive a very special gift: I will have to figure something out, you can make a wish if you want to, but if you don’t you will get a super excitingly special souvenir, dozens of postcards, constant updates of my life in China and a personal video message of me thanking you (in a language of your choice)
You can also help by sharing this fundraiser or sending me nice messages :)
Thank you very much for your help, I will be always thankful for your donation!
