Campaign Story
In total, there are seven sea turtle species around the world and already six of these seven are considered endangered or threatened. The main reasons are poachers, overfishing and pollutants like plastics. According to the See Turtles organization, plastics cause the death of more than 100 million marine animals per year.
My name is Jana. Recently, I graduated in Polymer Sciences. Following my studies, I will go abroad to Sri Lanka for six weeks in November and December 2021 for volunteering in a sea turtle conservation project. For this period, I will be based in Ambalangoda, which is in the south of Sri Lanka. In a turtle sanctuary, I will provide daily care and rehabilitation for disabled turtles and will protect turtle eggs against being stolen by local poachers. In the afternoon, I will take part in beach-cleaning-sessions and in teaching children and the local community. In turtle conservation sessions at the community village school I want to increase the awareness of young Sri Lankans in the local communities by teaching them and sharing my knowledge about the issues and solutions surrounding turtle conservation and plastic pollution.
With your donation you can help me contributing towards the UN's sustainable development goal 14 (life below water). It is your chance to do your bit to care for these incredible creatures without any great effort. Every euro will help me a lot to cover the costs for the flight and the accommodation.
I would appreciate this more than you could ever imagine!
Many thanks in advance!
Yours, Jana
