What is The Flying Seagull Project?
The Flying Seagull Project is an organisation working to spread love, light and laughter to children in crisis around the world. They currently have a team based in Samos, Greece, where a camp built to house around 640 people is currently home to many thousands living in crisis and fear.
Through circus, music, theatre and crafts, the incredible team behind The Flying Seagull Project are hard at work giving children in the camp hope and a sense of belonging and purpose. The project's founder, Ash Perrin, explains:
“Beyond politics, beyond all this adult stuff, kids are just kids and they like to play duck-duck-goose and they like to run about and they like to be congratulated for very average art work. They need that. Our futures are the dreams we had as kids turned into reality. I want them to feel that they can do anything.”
What am I doing?
For 2 weeks at the end of March 2020 (17th-31st), I'm joining the charity's volunteer support crew in Samos to assist in delivering their amazing work. I'll be helping to facilitate their day-to-day work by ensuring kids can safely get to and from the sessions run by the charity, as well as helping with logistics and getting a chance to see first hand the difference the entertainers and play-leaders are making to children's lives.
I'm asking for donations to help towards the cost of my flights, which I expect to be around £300 - and whatever I don't manage to raise I'll pay for myself. If I'm lucky enough to raise anything above the cost of flights, I'll give any extra money directly to the charity to support their invaluable work. If you can't afford to help financially at the moment (and I totally understand!), perhaps you could share this campaign online to help me out? Thank you so much in advance <3
