Help

Hi.  We are here to ask for your help.  Our grandson who lives with us has just been given the opportunity to take part in the World Scout Jamboree in Japan next year. He was second reserve but due to unfortunate circumstances two people have dropped out allowing him the chance to attend.  This is where you all come in! We have to raise the money for the trip before he can go in July 2015. The cost is £2995. The others that are going have been fundraising for almost a year and some are close to their total. There are some fundraising events still to take place which he will be taking part in.  We would pay it all if we could.  I only work 2 days a week and the rest of my time is taken up with caring for my grandson and my partially disabled wife. As you can guess we are on limited income and being helped with some benefit assistance.

Fundraising and Training undertaken

Jake has so far taken part in some bag packing just before Christmas and has lots more fundraising and several training camps to do.  He took part in a transport training camp before Christmas which involved travelling around London getting from place to place to help them get used to the crowds they can expect in Japan. Other camps will be encouraging the usage of chopsticks as well as learning some basic Japanese and learning about their customs and what will be expected of all the young people (and leaders!) while they are there.

The Jamboree and extras

We have just received notification that they will be doing their home hospitality (HoHo)  portion of their huge adventure at the beginning of the Jamboree event and will be staying with a family in the Prefecture of Ishikawa. They will go as pairs and will be immersed in the typical life of a Japanese family.

At the end of the Jamboree,  they will be joining in with the fun of Mimasu Tokyo which will give them a few days to see this magnificent city at close quarters before flying home.

During the Jamboree they will not just be having fun as part of going includes getting offsite and helping in local communities with projects that will be of great benefit. They will also be going to visit Hiroshima to visit the museum and learn how destructive weapons can be and will be releasing origami peace cranes that they are taking with them.

We have to give huge thanks to Jake's school, Haven High Academy,  for supporting Jake's fundraising with a £1000 donation.  If only we could find some more backers with a bit to spare! It's taken a weight off our minds but we still have a way to go.   We. . . . .
