It's time for Bail or Jail to help support adult literacy and education!

Local Peoria celebrities are willing to get locked up to support Moonlight Coalition and they need your help to bail them out! Donated funds will go to the Moonlight Coalition for Adult Learning which provides accessible, flexible GED and adult literacy education to adults ages 17 and over where they reside. Moonlight provides programming at Proctor Recreation Center and Logan Recreational Center servicing those most in need in South Peoria.

UPDATE 7/5/2015-

New Peoria supporter's of Moonlight Coalition have agreed to be Jailed & Bailed!!!!

This includes, the Yoga ladies (Mary Hudson, Nancy Shallenberger and Jamisha Hudson), Lt. Scott Cook and the infamous Curly Boo Johnson (Previous Harlem Globetrotter & Peoria Native).

We are also excited to have some new volunteers willing to help fundraise for Moonlight Coalition in the near future! Because of the wonderful support and encouragement from our community, the fundraiser has been extended and the last day to donate will be August 15th!

Please take a minute to look at Moonlight's Jail Birds and consider donating to their bail which all proceeds will go to Adult Literacy. Spread the word and let's help Moonlight Coalition meet their goal of $10,000!!!!

What makes Moonlight unique is individuals can start their GED preparation today, rather than other programs where they are put on a waiting list, have to pay for a class or have to wait for the next 8 week course to start. Hedy Elliot-Gardner and her team of tutors and volunteers meet individuals where they are in the learning process and prepare them for the various components needed to pass the GED. Once an individual is ready to pass their GED, Moonlight pays for their test collaborating with the Regional Office of Education.

Moonlight celebrates all graduates who obtain their GED twice a year with a cap and gown ceremony, inviting family and friends and hosting a reception after. This ceremony offers graduates the opportunity to share this proud moment with family and look towards a more positive future.

Without this unique assistance, many individuals would not have the opportunity to focus their lives on a positive move towards education, better employment and self-sufficiency. Thank you again for your time please know your assistance is an invaluable service to bettering our community.

Who do you want to bail out? Will it be....

  • Beth Derry, Superintendent of the Regional Office of Education
  • Phil Salzer, Peoria County Board Member
  • Carl Cannon, ELITE Founder and Community Activist
  • Savino Sierra, Peoria Community Activist
  • Hedy Elliot-Gardner & Daughter Gia, Moonlight Coalition
  • Jay & Jessi Scholl, Peoria Residents
  • Curly Boo Johnson, Harlem Globetrotter and Peoria Native
  • The Yoga Ladies - Mary Hudson, Nancy Shallenberger & Jamisha Hudson
  • Luitenant Scott Cook
  • Additional Peoria Celebrities to come!!!!

Don't forget to comment on who your donation will go to! Each jail bird is asked to raise $1,000 for their bail. Who will be the first to be free?!?!

If you wish to make a donation in person or mail, please go to the Bonnie Noble Center (old Lakeview museum) 1125 W. Lake Ave, Proctor Center at 309 S. DuSable or at the Peoria Airport Gift Shop! Your donations will be announced on our website along with who you wish to bail out!
