Jack Harber, my Labrador Greyhound rescue mutt, hurt his knee this year, basically an ACL injury in human terms.  He needs to go under the knife at a local hosiptal, Peachtree Corners Animal Clinic, and get the knee repaired.

The surgury will cost around $1800, and that is so much money for just a dog, but let me tell you his story:

Jack was found with a litter in a dumpster, with both types of mange and almost no hair on his body.  He was biting at me when I tried to pet him, and starting fights with all of his brothers and sisters.  I knew immediately I had to save him because no other family would even think about picking him up.  He was a wonderful puppy, and has been with me for 9 years, along with his sister Ginger, a dog we also rescued from her last day at the shelter (before she took the long walk).  Jack loved to take jogs with me every day, and catch frisbee in the yard.  One day in April, I took him on a 5k Dog and Owner fundraiser run, and I know that I pushed him too hard.  We were raising money for the fire department, and the cause was worth it, but Jack paid the price for it.

Now, he needs help.  I want to make his last few years as rewarding as possible.  And living in a crate is just not that.  I can not keep him out because we are a foster dog family, and our foster dogs always rough him up.  Yes, we are still trying to save dogs!!!!  Any way, please do what you can to help Jack out.  He will be my best friend until the day one of us dies, and forever after.

Rewards

As a reward for your donation, I will send you a hand drawn picture or watercolor of Jack, the poor mutt that you saved. I'll even get him to PAW sign it if you want. I am a former coming book artist, and would love to pay you back for your help.

  • Chris, Your story is so similar to the story about my old friend, Schooner. He was a Lab Rott mix that was found as a pup with mange, no fur and missing his tail. We took him in and nursed him to health. him when he was about 6, he blew his ACL and I appealed to my friends (on MySpace at the time) to help fund it. The outpouring of aid from friends and strangers was amazing. I couldn't have fixed him up without their help. Schooner came down with cancer a few months later and putting him down was - by far - the hardest thing I have ever had to do. Anyway, reading about Jack...... There is no way that I couldn't chip in. Good luck!

  • Jack has NO IDEA how much he is loved in this world. Thank all of you for everything. And for the big donors, these paintings are going to be something very special. I am almost in awe of the human race again.
