Hi, my name's Roxane.
When I was a child, my dream was to look after orphans in Africa.
Today, destiny led me to take care of vulnerable creatures: orphaned chimpanzees rescued from the bushmeat trade in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Together with Franck, my husband, I created J.A.C.K. Sanctuary in 2006 to stop the illegal ape trade in the South of the DRC. Chimpanzees were sold on the streets of Lubumbashi, the second biggest city of the DRCONGO which had become a hub for chimpanzee trafficking!
Thanks to our joint efforts with the DRC Environment authorities and thanks to education, awareness on Great Apes and to law enforcement, no more chimpanzees have been seen on sale on the streets of Lubumbashi since 2014. A positive outcome to all the sacrifices we made and to the years of hard work achieved by J.A.C.K. and its wonderful team.
But the fight isn't over yet!
Today, 36 chimpanzee residents stay at J.A.C.K. Aged between 5 and 15 years old, they live in two separate groups and the sanctuary is waiting for state land to start the pre-release program. Yes, all these rescued souls are meant to go back to the wild.
Meanwhile, Franck and I, who both work as volunteers, do our best to provide our orphans with the best care - a huge challenge in a country constantly ravaged by wars, violence and instabilty!!
All these residents were previously abused by humans and it is now our mission to make them feel good and happy again!
Therefore, any kind of support is welcome!
Our sanctuary solely relies on donations and needs contirbutions to offer adequate food/veterinary care. To donate for milk, for honey, for antibiotics or to sponsor one of the orphaned chimpanzees for 6 months... There are so many ways to help J.A.C.K. and, you see, if YOU want, YOU can be part of this worthy Cause! Since J.A.C.K. can't do everything on its own, YOUR support indeed can help the sanctuary complete more great things for all of THEM!
Please, join J.A.C.K. and give these 'furry' orphans a better future!
Thank YOU for THEM!
