IVHQ volunteer to help children of Zambia

Hi!

My name is Siera Zoulias and I am a 19 year old college student at Kansas State University. I will be traveling to Zambia this upcoming year for 3 weeks with the IVHQ volunteer group. While in Zambia, our trip will be committed to providing extra assistance within local pre-schools and day care centers with children aged from 2-7 years old . I will mostly be teaching basic Math, English, etc.( to help focus on early education.) Other things that I will be doing consists of preparing meals, helping the children with homework, interacting with the children through games, singing dancing, etc.

It has always been a dream of mine to volunteer to work with children in Africa. When I was in fifth grade, we had a fundraiser for a girl a few grades above me so that she could go on a volunteer project. We ended up raising more than enough for her to go and when she returned, she presented to our entire school how her trip went. I remember the light in her face while she was reminiscing on the memories of her trip. Ever since then, I have always wanted to go on my own volunteer trip and experience it for myself. I could never find the right time to go because I was always tied up with work, but once I came out to school in Kansas, I realized what better time is there to do it finally? I'm excited for this trip and all of the positive outcomes that will come for the children in need and also me.

Putting together this event involves a lot of challenges such as working out costs within the program. I am seeking for $2000 to cover my flight and possibly the program fee (if I can find a flight that is cheap enough) and I will be working for the remainder of the costs (application fee, weekly expenses, vaccinations, travel insurance, etc.)
