ITSKOOL, the free school of alternative knowledge

We are pleased and excited to announce that our fundraising mania has begun on January 1st, 2012. To reach the next step of our ultimate vision – funding KORAKOR’s community center in Mexico – we have dedicated the whole of the year to fundraise $200,000USD / 155,000 Euros.

Our DREAM is to create a Holistic Community Center where local villagers, as well as people from around the world, can gather to celebrate the best of life through beautiful practices – practices we believe to be essential to living sustainably: Education, Love, Self-Development, Permaculture, Community andWellness (check out our mandala).

The fundraising goal will enable us to acquire not only a plot of land but all materials needed to build a sustainable community center in the foothills of Oaxaca.

The center will provide a gathering space where local children will be offered free supplementary education, where young adults will attend workshops and seminars on organic agriculture and other vocational trainings, where elders will be participating in preserving indigenous heritage, and where visitors from around the world will experience an alternative way of living.

Why $200,000?

$100,000    for the land (about 50 hectares of forest land). 

$25,000    for IT’SKOOL, our free school of alternative knowledge (more details here). 

$70,000    for green buildings (from composting toilet to communal house). 

$5,000      for farm equipment (from seed bank to tools).

HELP US REACH OUR GOAL

We believe passionately in education and the role it has in helping students and adults shape a community that is fair, inclusive and sustainable. This is what we consider to be the key aspect of an organic development of the whole person. Through an intergenerational and student-centered pedagogy that promotes life-enriching practices we decided to become catalysts for realistic action. Thusly IT’SKOOL was created.

IT’SKOOL (a practice and project of KORAKOR) is a unified world education and resource center that was established to offer free supplementary alternative education to the community, while targeting populations in remote areas. Through our eclectic curriculum we focus on embracing and living by values that advocate a holistic understanding of life: love, peace, nonviolent communication, permaculture and community. With a team of international volunteers, we introduce our participants to a plethora of new skills (both artistic and vocational) in an environment where children and adults can fully explore not only their personal development but one in collaboration.

IT’SKOOL is therefore a knowledge center made by the people and for the people. Participants harmoniously connect the ‘life within’ to the ‘life without’. We create a vibrant multi-purpose and trans-disciplinary center nurtured by a loving community in which participants will collaboratively work and do research.
