Support a teacher, build a nation!

Sithokozile Play group is a small crèche in Kwamashu that provides quality education to 40 children aged 0 to 5. Together with the principle of the school, Bavumile Cele, I registered the school as a Not-for-profit organisation 9 years ago. We have doggedly attempted to request a subsidy from the South African Department of Social Development, but to date this has not been granted. We have met all compliance criteria as well as submitted all the necessary documentation and yet we wait.

Each child's parents pay a monthly fee of between 300 - 600 rand depending on the child’s age. For this the children receive 2 meals a day and a structured education program preparing them for formal schooling. We are open 5 days a week from 7 am to 5:30 pm. The school is staffed by a principle and 3 assistant teachers.

Covid-19 has wreaked havoc on this crèche and its children. Schools have been forced to close and parents have stopped paying their monthly fees. Many of these parents are very poor and vulnerable themselves, having lost income and the ability to work.

We need your help. Our teachers cannot be paid their salaries which places the long term sustainability of our crèche, and the essential service that it provides the community in jeopardy

We need your help to pay the salaries of our teachers while they are unable to work. We have carefully considered all possibilities and looked at expert Epidemiology data which predicts that South Africa’s peak infections rate will likely occur in September. Additionally, because we are a crèche and we will not be given priority in the governments phased approach to school return.

I will personally oversee the administration of all donations received guaranteeing that your money will go directly to the intended outcomes of this campaign. We are a legitimate organisation and our financials are independently audited on an annual basis.
