Since I was young, I always used to look forward to the last Sunday of each month. On that day, we would go to Costco, grab two flat carts and buy many types of food and drinks in multiple sets. We would then ‘tetris’ them tightly in the back of our car. The rest of the day we would drive from house to house and deliver the groceries to selected families. In doing so, I came across many kids who were orphans and whose guardians were struggling to provide a simple meal on the table. As the faces of these kids became increasingly familiar to me, so did the hardship of many like them in the community. Unbeknownst to me, this unique experience became a catalyst for my interest in helping orphans.

One of my best days was when I completed memorizing the Quran. I remember my father saying, "If Allah gave me more children I wish they could be all Huffadh (person who has memorized the entire Quran)". With that in heart, he went on to establish an orphanage in Bangladesh where students dedicated their youth in reciting and memorizing the Quran. Every time my father visited back home, he would bring back pictures and videos of them sitting on the cemented floor of a small room reciting in unison. What humbled me the most was despite their ongoing poverty and struggle, they always seemed to manage a smile on their face. It reminded me that 'every act of giving is a good deed; even a smile to someone can be a charity’. Overtime, as I observed an increase in the number of the male Huffadhs, I also noticed the absence of female in the orphanage. With utter dismay, I uncovered that girls were being turned back from the orphanage due to lack of support, facility and coordination. Among them, some were either siblings or close relatives of the already enrolled male orphans. It was heartbreaking to hear how some of the students would save a portion of their meal to take home for their sisters. As a female and a Huffadh myself, I wanted to help change that. I wanted to create a safe and supportive orphanage where young girls can have the same rights and opportunities as their male counterparts.

Along with religious studies, an interest in Mathematics, Science, and Technology has also been a big part of my life. I wanted to ensure that this orphanage will also offer secular subjects as part of their curriculum. This in turn will equip them to pursue higher education; leading them to a brighter future. One shouldn’t have to choose between the affairs of this world and the afterlife: both can be integrated and excelled at.

My name is Isra Satiar and I am asking for your help to raise funds to:

1) Build a completely new building within the same facility where girls can be housed to learn Allah’s book. A complete plan and blueprint have been completed and approved. All we need is enough fund to start construction.

2) Build an infrastructure to support these girls– hire female Quran instructor, caretaker and personnel to establish the girl’s side of the orphanage.

3) Hire a full-time teacher fluent in math, science, and technology to teach all students.

4) Make modern technology available to these orphans – internet, computers, raspberry pi, Arduino, etc.

All of these are lofty goals and can be accomplished only with YOUR help and support! I came to realize how prevalent poverty is while we are cushioned within the boundary of our luxury homes and top schools. Donate whatever you can, even if it is as small as your lunch money or money worth of your morning coffee. Above all, please pray so that this journey can be successful with ease.

Please do whatever you can to spread the word and share this link through your favorite social media app. Together, let’s try to bring positive impacts into their lives.

PS: We have consulted with Scholars to ensure that you can donate your Zakah for this cause as 100% of the funds will be directly used for the orphans.
