We need farm equipment to feed our family!

My name is Ismatu Gwendolyn and I am endeavoring to feed my family this winter and every winter thereafter. All we need is the equipment!

We are the Limba of Sierra Leone and we are still here. The Limba people are one of the tribes indigenous to present-day Sierra Leone. Having survived capture during the Atlantic Slave Trade and colonization of the country (not to mention the Sierra Leonean Civil War and the Ebola Epidemic), our pride is well-deserved. We are still here, farming, educating and making a way!

As our communities continue to flourish, we encounter a need for sustainable farming practices. We feed ourselves and our economic growth by keeping livestock and growing produce, and (gratefully!) our communal needs have far surpassed what we can do with our hands alone. We need a tractor, tree seed, chainsaws, and two combination rice harvesters for the following needs:

• preparing the land for agriculture
• completion of the rice harvest before the rainy season (June 2023)
• creating desks for our school-children from forest lumber
• planting ten trees for every tree taken for lumber

We are honored to be in collaboration with our neighboring villages to ensure our farming and logging practices are sustainable and kind to our home. The costs of materials, shipping, labor, and customs for all these items comes to $115,000. Thank you for helping us gain equipment so we can continue to sustain our agricultural and economic growth!
