My dearest friends,
Thank you, thank you, thank you for landing on this page, and your openness to support me on this journey of exploration!
Art has always been a hugely important part of my life and work as a curator. It started as an intellectual passion-- a fascination with the stories of humanity that arise through an image and how these stories can be discovered through the analysis and deconstruction of form.
Yet, as my interests in spirituality, in healing, in consciousness deepened, I found myself approaching art in a new way: from the space of feeling and healing, returning to the beliefs of artists like Kandinsky who saw Art as a divine messenger, as an expression of the soul.
I have been seeking platforms for engagement with the arts that are soul-expansive, that connect people to themselves, to each other, and to feeling. An affective form of curation that enables one to step outside of their minds and into their hearts, to return to the sole purpose of art as divine creation, as having a significant role in the mass shifts in consciousness that are so urgently being called for.
These provocations encouraged me to leave my job in Singapore and travel for two years, during which I explored my own personal practices of meditative movement, ceremonial and land work. While I had stepped essentially out of the conventional art world, I found that these modalities came to inform and strengthen my own curatorial approach. An approach that broke down the traditional mind-based experience, and brought people into their bodies, into their feelings, into what is visceral -- because it is from there that true shifts can happen, where true change can be made. I feel that the 'art world' has been stagnated by the mind, and what is craved for is an engagement with art that brings us back to ourselves, that heals, and empowers, and connects.
Yet, I have found myself feeling quite lonely in this journey, longing for a community of artists and practitioners who are engaged in similar ideas who I can learn from and co-create with.
And by pure synchronicity, I found an artist residency called "Islands of Consciousness" that explores exactly the concepts in which I have become so deeply passionate, happening in just a few weeks in nearby Bali. If you'd like to know more about the residency, you can access this link: More about the residency.
So here I am, asking for any financial support to receive the opportunity to learn and dive deeper into these topics through this residency, enabling me to take one step closer to offering the world an experience with art that comes from the heart, that engages the soul, and provides healing for all.
Thank you for taking the time to read about my journey and my passions. I am so grateful to you for any financial support you may be able to provide, and am happy to answer any other questions you may have!
