Islamic Women’s Convention

We are organizing the Islamic Women's Convention in Malaysia, a biennial convention which aims to gather women from various ages to contribute to the development of Islam and Muslim community in Malaysia. This year's convention focuses on women's well-being issues, particularly regarding women's mental health as we believe that a woman's mental health plays a pivotal role in her overall happiness. And happy women are what make a great thriving nation! Don't you agree?

It was reported by the National Institute of Mental Health, that the prevalence of mental illness was higher among women (21.7%) than men (14.5%) in the US. While in Malaysia specifically, the prevalence of mental illness in women was 30.8%, as compared to 27.6% in men as reported by the National Health and Morbidity Survey 2015. Mental illness is a serious issue in society which leaves impact on every aspect of life. At its worst, a severe depression will often lead to suicide. And what is particularly alarming is the increase in suicide cases in the country with 60 suicide cases per month as reported by the Malaysia National Suicide Registry.

Yes, it has become ever more apparent that mental health is crucial to the overall well-being of individuals, societies and countries.. And we intend to explore further on the root cause of this issue and subsequently recommend the recipe to happiness from Islamic perspective in helping women to create a happier and stronger nation.

We are the women wing of Malaysian Muslim Solidarity Organization (http://isma.org.my/v2/), an NGO based in Malaysia. Every other year, we try to bring women in Malaysia together in the efforts to empower Muslim women's leadership and to instill awareness on matters concerning women. The conventions also aspire to increase women’s participation in development of Islam & the Ummah, and educate women to intensify their role as active contributors / beneficiaries of the national's development.

As we are a Not-for-Profit Organization, we are not backed by any funds from any private or government parties. So we really need your help to make this event, which will be held on 1st September 2018, a successful and a rewarding one. Jazakumullah khayran :)
