iPad or new laptop for university

I'm studying at the university (distance learning) besides I have a job. Unfortunately my laptop is dying but I don't have money for a new one.
I love my job but unfortunately I don't earn enough and I have to pay the bills, an appartment and now also tuiton fee.
I don't need an expensive laptop, just a cheap one or at least an ipad.
I would really, really appreciate your help!
