I am a Sophomore at Stanford University (B.S. Candidate Science, Technology and Society).  I have been accepted to do an Internship during this Summer at Navdanya Biodiversity Conservation Farm and Bija Vidyapeeth, an educational center of Navdanya in Dehradun, India. During his stay (June 2013 until September 2013) I will be able to learn and see their work on biodiversity, sustainability and organic farming. For more information about Navdanya please visit the website: www.navdanya.org.

A little information about the internship:

Interns must be over 18 and able to commit to a minimum of 3 months working at Earth University.  Strong candidates are flexible, self-directed, and capable of carrying out multiple projects at the same time.  Internships are unpaid, so applicants should be able to support themselves during their entire stay at the Navdanya Farm.
Once at the farm, interns participate in the same daily work as volunteers but also carry out long-term projects. As an intern, you may also come to work on existing projects or develop a project to suit your area of expertise.

Previous long-term projects include a research project called ‘Wealth Per Acre’ comparing the wealth produced by organic farms with non-organic farms; a documentation project about flooding in the area around the Tehri Dam; the creation of a student version of Dr. Shiva’s book Biopiracy; a documentation project about women farmers; a photo documentary project of the 500 rice varieties grown at the farm; and a school garden project called ‘Seeds of Hope, Gardens of Hope.

Some specific internship positions are posted on the Navdanya website, but interns are welcome to come even if they cannot fill one of these positions. Please note that most internship roles do not involve assisting a member of Navdanya staff in the traditional sense of ‘internship.’ Most projects are self-directed and need a level of self-organization, confidence and commitment. Not all interns come from an academic background; if you feel you have something to offer and something to learn from being an intern at Navdanya, we are open to applications from people of all backgrounds and ages.

I need US$4500 to cover travel expenses and room and boarding during my stay in India. Since I cannot afford to pay for this internship, I am using this tool to help me raise the money needed for the trip.

I was born in the Dominican Republic and raised in Florida. I have a passion for volunteering and helping others.

 Help me go to India!!!
